Today, Mahashiva Ratri, birthday of almighty lord Shiva. Large numbers of Hindus, especially from India and Nepal visit to the Pashupati Nath Temple to offer worship, and some devotees who do not have time and avoid crowd visit to Shiva’s shrines at nearby neighborhood. On this occasion of the day, Pashupati Development Fund provides free food, open accommodation, and some lugs for only holy men who come to Pashupati from many different parts across India and Nepal.
Due to rush and some kilometers long queue, we were unable to get in to the temple, we just offered a pray from a long distance away. There were many long lines of devotees, from different directions, who were having hour long hectic time to get in to the temple. Many visitors rushing a huge crowed on the streets, seem they come to observe celebration. Moreover, charities stalled pavilions to offer free first aid medication, water distribution, and some were entertaining visitors by lord shiva’s music.
On the other side, many holy men are collecting money by letting visitors and tourist take their photos. Some of them were dealing marijuana price and selling it to visitors. It is said that on this day, police deescalate gripping of marijuana usage as Lord shiva uses this substance, devotees and pilgrims can use as Prasad (offering) of Shiva.
